Goal: Update a Vintage Kitchen
Name: Kitchen Remodel in Myers Park
This set of clients was a couple with two small children and another on the way. They saw potential and knew they needed a timeless kitchen remodel that respected the home’s heritage while offering a better space for their growing family.
After being referred by their architect and examining our work, this couple turned to Hopedale Builders to remodel and update their vintage kitchen.
A 1950s Kitchen Gets a Fresh Start
This 1920s Myers Park home had all the iconic charm you'd hope for, and a 1950s kitchen that had seen better days. Our clients wanted to restore the kitchen to its bygone 1920s-era features and finishes, while incorporating all the 21st-century amenities. We used our process to drill down to their goals and get to work.
Alder Kitchen Island and Shaker Doors
The transformation began with a warm Alder kitchen island, the natural focal point of the space. We paired it with classic Shaker doors to add definition and depth without overwhelming the room. The overall effect is a warm yet dark and moody kitchen that balances family functionality with elevated design. The details are clean and intentional, proving you don’t need to be flashy to make a statement.
Inset Kitchen Cabinets and Library Ladder
To keep the look grounded in the right decade, we installed inset kitchen cabinets that evoke the built-ins of the era, paired with a custom library ladder that glides across the upper cabinets. It’s part vintage charm, part practical magic. This 1920s-style kitchen feels authentically rooted in the past, without sacrificing any modern convenience.
Vintage Push-Button Light Switches and Statuario Marble
Authenticity doesn’t stop at the cabinetry. This kitchen remodel features vintage push-button light switches that nod to the home’s original electrical era. Topping the surfaces is Statuario marble: timeless, high-performance, and a statement piece all its own. It reflects light beautifully and adds a layer of polish that feels right at home in a house with this much history.
A Charlotte Kitchen Remodel That Looks Original to the Home
Too many remodels look like exactly what they are: an add-on. This project is the opposite. From the dark wood flooring to touches of navy cabinetry, every detail was chosen to match the spirit of the house. It doesn’t feel over-modern, and that’s the point. It feels like it’s always been there.
Our team worked to resolve hidden structural issues and update all elements behind the walls. The result is an updated, family-friendly space that looks like it stepped right out of the 1920s. And we’re proud to say, maintaining a home's historic character in a remodel might be our favorite kind of magic trick. While this particular project was not in Charlotte's Historic District, we remodel homes of all ages, in and out of the district.
