Project: Basement overhaul
Goal: Turn an unfinished basement into a full-fledged living space
Name: Sumwalt Residence

The basement that has it all

The clients purchased this home knowing they had a great opportunity to finish the basement in order to accommodate their growing family. Without touching the original foundation of this home, we added an additional 2,000 square feet of kitchen, living area, workout space, guest suite, and media room. One enters the space into a large living area that is fully equipped with reinforced drywall to house an in-home gym in the very near future. This is open to a new fully equipped kitchen featuring custom-built cabinets, granite counter tops, and vaulted ceilings. Structural columns on each side of the island were worked into the design by boxing them with ship lap to create a farmhouse feel. Ample light fills the entire area through the double French doors, opening up to the ground level patio. A guest suite, featuring a whirlpool tub and large tile shower, fills the area opposite of the kitchen. The media room offers a perfect nook to get the homeowner's drum set off of the 1st floor.
